Day 10 - Port Douglas and the Great Barrier Reef

Today was the day of our snorkeling cruise. Frantically bought an underwater camera, which proved to be a really good thing. On the boat it was just five guests (Kristin and me, a couple from Sydney (Hi Phil and Mel) and some fellow from Toronto, Canada (Hi John). Really nice. If you want to do snorkelling or diving, spent the extra buck and try to get on one of the small boats.Great trip out to the reef, about 1 1/2 hours snorkelling around (no reef sharks, luckily also no stingers). We had to wear lycra suits (because of the stingers). If you are a Trekkie, these are pretty similar to Trek uniforms. Pretty much looked like the Shatner/Frakes type on me, so I had to hold my breath every time Kristin came near with the camera. Managed pretty well, I think.

Great Barrier Reef is an experience. Fish and Fish and Fish. And corals, shellfish, squids, everything. Go there! And the even had some prescription masks on the boat, so I was able to see more than usual while being underwater. This year we will do this dive course. And I look forward to the underwater images.
