Day 24 - Melbourne to Sydney

IMG_3656.JPG

Rented bikes today and explored Melbourne by bicycle. Along the Yarra river is a nice bikeroute and you can see Melbourne from a different side. Had to return the bikes early because our flight was leaving in the afternoon.Sydney presented itself, well, rainy. And we had a cabbie that not only was too stupid to turn on the A/C (so he drove almost blind) but also dropped us off half a block from the hotel in the pouring rain. Great.

Day 23 - Melbourne and Mornington peninsula

IMG_3638.JPG

Met up for breakfast with a friend who grew up in the Melbourne area. Great way to get around town if you have a local to guide you. We decided to go to Mornington peninsula south because it has the “greatest beach in this part of the world”.I would fully agree with that classification. Did some hiking to get there and chilling at the beach.

Finally saw a snake, even a deadly poisonous one: a tiger snake. We backed off quickly and so did the snake. This again supports my theory that hiking leads you right into death traps all the time and we should spend more time drinking. Kristin disagrees, though.  She also saw a Wallaby and is now one animal ahead. Bugger.

Day 22 - To Melbourne

IMG_3633.JPG

Last day driving. From here only big cities. Dropped the car off at city location and found out that our hotel is not nearly close to the city but in St. Kilda, one of the waterfront, trendy and bustling parts of Melbourne.Dropped off our bags and back down town for some sight-seeing. Federation square is definitely… hm. I’m not yet sure whether I like it. And will all the Formula One promotion hammering away on the square, we only stayed for some quick pictures.
Went walking along the Yarra river and some shopping around downtown. Took the Tram back to St. Kilda which goes all the way along Albert Park. Might drop in there tomorrow to get some idea on where the F1 race will be.
Dropped into China Town at the end of the day but decided to look for food closer to the hotel. Good decision, because even we got an invitation to join for a birthday party, we were pretty tired in the end.
